Just a little post to say have a wonderful xmas peeps. I hope you have loads of fun & frolics over the festivities and santa is good to you all.

I’m taking a much needed break over the next couple of weeks where I plan to mostly have my head in a box of chocolates and my hand round a glass of bailey’s but I will be posting a couple of more blog posts before big ben strikes midnight on the 31st and catapults us into 2012… so keep (a drunken!) eye out for them.

I was so happy when Paul and Yvonne booked me last year. These guys are like Glasgow socialites, with Paul owning and managing a successful bar in town and Yvonne being close friends with one of the hottest designers to come out of Scotland – this wedding was HOT!

Yvonne’s friend Graeme Armour (who was unleashing his Spring/Summer Collection for 2012 in New York at the time of the wedding!) designed the dress, Paul looked sharp in a slim fitting suit and the bridesmaids were simply stunning in gorgeous tie-dye dipped blue dresses from Coast. I just loved the colours of this wedding…especially against the backdrop of Glasgow’s west end.

Congratulations to the gorgeous Jill & Keir who tied the not on Friday at Glasgow University Chapel and 29, Royal Exchange Square. It was such a beautiful day that even had me in tears behind the camera at one point.

I’ll post more photos and details of their wonderful day next week, but for now a little sneaky glimpse of what’s in store… x

On Sunday I had a stand at my first ever wedding fayre.

I had signed myself up for the Glasgow Girls Wedding Guide fayre at Partick Burgh Hall after hearing about the huge success of their Pollockshields Burgh Hall fayre at the start of the year.

I spent a few weeks getting organised, ordering my prints and new portfolio book, deciding on the design for my stand and roping in my mother-in-law to make me some personalised bunting (who doesn’t love bunting!).

My sister came along to help ‘work the stand’ whilst I photographed the fayre (I was the ‘official fayre photographer’) and whilst wondering around taking pics I managed to catch up with lots of people who I only know through the likes of facebook and twitter – it was so great to put faces to names!

Some of the lovely people I met who are well worth checking out include:

e.y.i.love – Jack & Lorna who are specialist (and uber talented) wedding stationers.

LookLook - Darren & Frances from the ultimate and really popular LookLook photobooth!

Butler & Taylor – Vintage event hire specialist… and all round lovely vintage lassies. (worth keeping up with their fab blog too!)

Cup Couture - the most moist delicious cupcakes you could ever imagine! (It was actually Nikki’s Mum and Aunt who were working the stand, but they were so lovely and we couldn’t resist purchasing some cupcakes, especially since we were the stand across from them and they were teasing us with them from 10:30am!!)

I’m aiming to finish putting together a little list of people I love on my website this week… so will ensure I add these and many more to that as soon as it’s completed.

I also met loads of new brides-to-be, a few of my future brides (it was great to catch up with them) and had more than 50 entries for my ‘win a pre-wed shoot’ competition!

All in all MT and the Glasgow Girls made it a great day.

So now I’ve got a bit of a wedding fayre bug and have only gone and signed myself up for the brand spanking new Glasgow Wedding Collective Vintage Style Wedding Fayre. I’m chuffed to be listed as one of their selected photographers and am really looking forward to being part of this fayre and meeting more of their fab suppliers and loads of new brides-to-be!

I’d like to say make sure you pop along to say ‘hi’ but the fayre is happening on 2nd October – a day after my baby is due! But don’t worry… if I’m not there in person I’ll still have a stand there and my lovely friend Rachel will be working her magic. If the bump hasn’t turned into a baby – I’ll be there – so make sure then you do say hi to the heavily pregnant one – just have some hot towels at the ready!

During my first skype chat with them both, it was clear the way they felt about each other. They couldn’t keep their hands off each other and they couldn’t stop making each other laugh – the perfect combination in a couple for any wedding photographer.

Cara was keen to do a pre-wed shoot in advance of their big day next year to get used to the camera and to get some pics of them together. Cara knew the places that would mean the most to them for the shoot and I was over the moon when she said where they were – only some of the coolest music venues in Glasgow – yeeeeha!

Cara & Phil both work in the music industry you see and met whilst on tour with the same band. Both have worked in the venues we used and knew every nook, cranny, dressing room and fire escape. In all the venues in the world they’ve worked in the Barrowlands, Nice’n'Sleazy and King Tuts are their faves!

It was such a lovely way to spend an afternoon…getting to know them a little bit better…Phil just has Cara in stitches – constantly, Cara does ‘sultry’ really well and they both just bounce of each other so naturally – I think sometimes they even forgot I was there. Perfect!

The plans for their wedding sound phenomenal and I can’t wait to get them back in front of the camera!

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again… how gorgeous are these guys!

Take Lorna’s five stunning bridesmaids in black, Owen’s handsome ushers and throw in some cheeky pink vans and a wedding dress with pockets (I LOOOOOOVVVEEEE Wedding Dresses with pockets especially when they are filled with ‘pocket-lockets’) this wedding was just amazing to photograph.

After a week of rain the sun appeared in the morning and stayed shining through what was such a beautiful and emotional day for lots of reasons.

As some of you may know I have worked with Owen in my day job for almost 2 years now and when he asked me to be his wedding photographer I was totally honored. Owen had talked about Lorna often and shared with me how they met… he also spent many an afternoon telling me how sweet and lovely she was…the boy was clearly besotted!

I knew I would get on with Lorna as soon as I met her and I felt as if I knew her already. Also not only was she was as sweet and lovely as Owen had said, she was absolutely blooming gorgeous and they look so great together!

We spent a great afternoon in Millport for their pre-wed shoot back in March (see post here) and from then on I knew this wedding was going to be one of the highlights of my wedding calendar… and it didn’t disappoint!

So I’ve ‘just’ got my laptop back after a week… and I’m finally getting round to posting a quick glimpse from my pre-wed shoot with the gorgeous and soooo totally in love couple, Cara & Phil.

Cara & Phil’s story is totally rock’n'roll and I’m so excited about being their photographer next year at the amazing wedding they are planning!

So… okay, you’ve probably guessed by now that I’m not the best at keeping on top of my blog posts and this post just highlights that even more I’m afraid!

Back at the end of May I headed down to Birmingham for Steve Gerrard’s Wedding Photography Workshop. It was a flying visit but well worth the journey. Steve took us through how he does things, not only whilst shooting but his editing process too, as well as gave us some great tips on marketing and general business stuff. It really was good to see how other people do things and great to meet some other photographers from all over the country and share experiences.

In the afternoon we headed out with some models to take some shots. Steve took us to some derelict ground near his studio and gave us tips and guidance on working with couples. It made me realise just how much you don’t ‘need’ the idyllic backdrop and that you really can learn to work with what you’ve got in terms of location.

I know that these ‘urban’ shots might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I hope it makes some people feel up for taking more of a risk in where they have their portrait shots taken.

This weekend one of my best friends was up from London to visit me. Normally when Ynika comes to stay we head into Glasgow for a night out, do a bit of shopping, go for dinner etc. However since alcohol is off the menu for me at the moment and early nights are what now get me excited, we thought we’d make the most of the daylight hours and the good weather!

We headed up to Loch Lomond for the day and ventured out on a boat. Ynika, being a Londoner born and bred, was overwhelmed with the scenery and after several visits to Glasgow when it’s normally raining or snowing, finally believes that we do get a summer.

The sky and water were so blue and gorgeous I couldn’t resist adding a few more photos to this post…

Back in June I ventured far into the woodlands of Dumfrieshire to photograph the wedding of Grace & Warren.

Grace and Warren’s wedding is probably the most unusual wedding I’ve photographed to date. There were elements of tradition along with international music and dancing (Zimbabwean mbira musicians and traditional eastern European dancing), cake parades, a guest procession, children in fancy dress…all set within a beautiful mystical forest.

They had chosen the Marthrown of Mabie to get married as friends, who were traditional craftsmen, had thatched the roof of the gorgeous Celtic age roundhouse that’s located there. It was set within a spot high in Mabie forest amongst a large clearing with tipis and the roundhouse as the central point… it was stunning… especially when the rain stopped!

Although the ceremony was held in the roundhouse, thanks to some ‘well-timed’ breaks in the cloud Grace & Warren were lucky enough to have the cake parade, cake eating! and speeches all outdoors as intended…phew!

Grace and Warren really wanted me to capture everything that was going on as much as possible, they wanted a real focus on their guests and all the effort and contributions that everyone had made for their wedding day. It meant I was one ‘helluva’ busy lady, but it was worth it…there was just SO much to photograph!

I love seeing how people approach their weddings so differently and make it fit who they are. Anyone else thinking of doing  things a little differently on their big day, I say go for it… then give me a call to be your photographer x
